Basketball Betting
Bet on the fast-paced and exciting game of basketball with LiveScore Bet. You can bet on various betting markets over a range of leagues, such as the NBA, Euroleague and more. As a game can change quickly, we also offer live basketball betting, with odds that update instantly throughout the game.
Created by James Naismith in 1891 during his time at the International Young Men's Christian Association Training School (now Springfield College) in Massachusetts, basketball was his way of keeping his gym class active whilst indoors during wintery, rainy days. Other ideas for this he deemed too rough or not suitable for indoors, so he invented a new game that had players pass a ball to each other and score points by throwing the ball into a basket mounted on the wall, and so basketball was born, with the first official game being played in 1892 in New York.
Since then, the game has evolved into what we now know today. With the Basketball Association of America (BAA) being formed in 1946 (which over time became the NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in 1932, the game that started as a simple exercise to keep a gym class busy during winter gained popularity across America and beyond.

What Basketball Competitions Can You Bet On?
LiveScore Bet offers opportunities across a variety of basketball competitions. The biggest competitions include the NBA, college basketball and the Euroleague.
NBA
Founded in New York City in 1946, the Basketball Association of America began with just 11 teams competing. In 1949 the BAA merged with the National Basketball League (NBL) and became the National Basketball Association. Then in 1976, the NBA and American Basket Basketball Association merged, which created the NBA we know today.
Today, the NBA is considered the world's premier men's professional basketball league. The NBA consists of 30 teams (29 in the US and 1 in Canada), divided into two conferences of three divisions with five teams each. The regular season is played from October to April, with each team playing 82 games. Though in February, the season is paused to celebrate the annual NBA All-Star Game, where a combination of fan, player and media voters selects the starting line-up for each squad. This showcases 24 of the league's star players and is the featured event of the NBA All-Star Weekend; and is an exciting event in the basketball calendar and includes other attractions such as the Risings Star Challenge and the Skills Challenge.
After the NBA All-Star Weekend, the NBA regular league resumes, and playoffs extend into June. This cumulates in the NBA Finals, which is the annual championship of the NBA.
We offer a range of NBA betting odds and markets here at LiveScore Bet. Place your bet ahead of the game, or bet in play to make the game even more exciting.

EuroLeague
Also known as the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, the EuroLeague is the European professional club competition. First introduced by the FIBA as the FIBA European Champions Cup in 1958, this competition was renamed the FIBA EuroLeague in 1996. The league was played under the FIBA umbrella until the 2000-2001 season when the EuroLeague Basketball was created. Now the EuroLeague is one of the most popular indoor sports leagues in the world, with an average attendance of over 8,000 in the 2017-2018 season.
The EuroLeague comprises 18 teams, who play each other twice in a double round-robin league in the regular season. This means there is a total of 34 games played by each team. The top 8 teams then advance to playoffs, each playing a 5-game playoff series against a single opponent. The winners advance to the Final Four, which features two semi-finals, a third-place game and a championship game, all on the same weekend.

During the BBL Championship, each team plays a 27-game regular season, which runs from September to April. The winner is crowned as League Champions. After this season has been played, the top eight teams advance to the post-season playoff tournament to decide the winner of the BBL Championship.

College Basketball
In the USA, colleges with top-tier basketball teams are governed by various athletic bodies. Each of the organisations is subdivided into one to three divisions, and there are a number of tournaments that take place.
The NCAA tournament is the most exciting tournament to bet on with College Basketball. 68 teams play in this tournament, and the last 8 teams play for four spots, which makes the field 64, which is the first round. This is then repeated, with rounds having various names.

How to Bet on Basketball
There are a range of betting markets within basketball betting. This includes popular markets such as moneyline, outright, over/under, handicap and margin. There are also a variety of specials within leagues, such as who will make the Playoffs and Rookie of the Year.
Moneyline
Moneyline betting is where you bet on which team you think will win the match. As basketball has no draws, the sport has a two-way betting market, and if the teams are tied at the end of the fourth quarter, the game will go into overtime.
Outright
Outright betting is where you bet on the champion team of a league instead of individual games. You can do this on leagues such as the Euroleague and NBA Finals, as well as the NCAA Tournament and lesser-known leagues such as the WBNA Finals.
Margin
When choosing a margin bet, you are betting that a team will win by an exact number of points. So, to win, you need to select the winner and the margin they win by. If you bet that Team A will beat Team B by 4 – 10, you are betting that Team A will win by 4 to 10 points.
Under/Over
With under/over markets, you are not betting on which team will win the game but instead on the final score. You can bet on whether the final score will be above or below a certain number of points. This can be done with total points, or just on one team.
Handicap
Handicap betting can be done in two ways. This either deducts points from the favourite's final score, or the less favoured team is hypothetically awarded points at the start of a game. This balances out the chances, making an unbalanced match potentially more profitable.
Specials
The various leagues have their own awards and specials that can be bet on. For example, you can predict that a certain team will make the playoffs after regular leagues have finished.
The NBA has a range of awards and specials, such as Rookie of the Year, NBA's Most Valuable Player and more, all of which you can bet on. With the Euroleague, you can bet on Regular Season Winners as a special, and in the NCAA, you can bet on the Most Outstanding Player. There are many more specials to be found throughout the leagues.
Live Basketball Betting
With live basketball betting, you can bet while the game is in-play. After the game starts or while the game progresses among the quarters, if you feel like the game will go a certain way, you can place bets in our in-play basketball betting markets.
Live basketball betting is as simple as any other type of basketball betting. However, as each game progresses, the odds will adjust to reflect the probability of outcomes in real time. So, depending on each team’s performance and the current time or quarter of the game, each market will vary and update with every pass, shot, and point scored. Once you place a bet during the live basketball betting market, you are locked in with these odds. But you can bet anytime as the game unfolds.
