Rugby Union Betting

Enjoy rugby union betting ahead of the biggest fixtures of the season, right here at LiveScore Bet. We offer rugby union odds for all the major tournaments, including the Gallagher Premiership Grand Final, the Six Nations, the United Rugby Championship, and of course, the World Cup. So, if you’re a Saracens fan or pulling for the mighty All Blacks, we have a market for you.

Said to have originated when an overly eager schoolboy named William Webb Ellis, after whom the Rugby World Cup Trophy is eponymously named, with a fine disregard for the rules of football, picked up the ball and ran with it during a game in 1823. Rugby has since spread to all four corners of the world. From Canada to Samoa, Japan to Argentina, rugby union has both thrilled and bruised in equal measure.

With LiveScore Bet, you'll find the latest and rugby union odds throughout a wide range of betting markets, including live rugby union betting.

What Rugby Union Competitions Can You Bet On?

LiveScore Bet offers betting opportunities across international, domestic and transnational competitions. The biggest international competitions include the Rugby World Cup and Six Nations, whilst the Premiership and Super Rugby feature amongst the biggest club competitions.

Six Nations Championship

The Six Nations Championship is the oldest running international rugby tournament and arguably the most impassioned. Featuring the home nations of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales plus France and Italy, the rivalries on the pitch are as entrenched off it. The six nations compete in a league across five thrilling weekends of fixtures. Beyond the Championship itself, won by the team with the most points, teams also compete for the Grand Slam (beating every team across a championship) and Triple Crown (a home nation beating each home nation) amongst other rivalry trophies. England are currently the most successful team in the Six Nations Championship, although Wales are not far behind with France, Ireland and Scotland all seeing revivals in recent editions.

Rugby World Cup

Contested every four years, the Rugby World Cup is the pinnacle international rugby competition and claimed to be the third biggest sporting event in the world, behind the football world cup and Olympics. First held in 1987, twenty nations compete over six weeks across pools followed by a knockout round. The Southern Hemisphere teams have so far dominated the tournament with New Zealand and South Africa being the joint most successful teams as three-time winners ahead of Australia on two. England are the only Northern Hemisphere team to have won the tournament with victory in 2003 after Johnny Wilkinson's extra-time drop goal.

Premiership Rugby

Premiership Rugby is the top division of the English rugby union. Across 26 rounds, teams compete in a league format where the top four then compete in a playoff with the winner of the Premiership Final recognised as English champions. Since the introduction of the playoffs in the 2002/03 season, only five teams have been top of the table at the end of the season and gone on to win the Premiership final. Watch out for Wasps who tend to peak at just the right time having never been top of the table despite their four Premiership Final wins whilst on the other side of the coin, Gloucester have topped the table yet lost the Premiership final on three occasions.

How to Bet On Rugby Union

The most common markets in rugby union betting include three-way, handicap and over/under betting. LiveScore Bet also offers live rugby union odds so you can bet in-play.

What Is Three-way Betting?

Three-way betting is your pick of the three possible outcomes in a rugby game (assuming an 80-minute market), home win, draw or away win represented as 1X2. Given the high-scoring nature of rugby, draws are less likely compared to sports such as football but equally, they aren't impossible.

What Is Handicap Betting?

If there is a clear favourite in a particular match rugby union bet, handicap betting is a great way of extending the odds. This is because handicap betting involves giving a certain team a hypothetical deficit or head start. For example, if 'Team A' are clear favourites to beat 'Team B', your return on the favourite to win will be limited. However, if you bet on 'Team A' with a -7.5 handicap, for the bet to land 'Team A' would have to win by more than a converted try, which reduces your odds, increasing the return on bet.

What Is Over/Under Betting?

Over/under betting is a bet on whether a certain stat will be greater than, or fewer than, a given number. The most popular over/under bet in rugby union betting is total points. For example, within recent editions of the premiership season, games have been won and lost on the success of high-scoring flowing rugby whereas the Six Nations have often seen closer matches with games decided through defensive ferocity and forward-pack dominance.

Outrights and Specials

Outright bets are a bet on whom you think we will an overall competition or tournament, rather than individual matches. Pick your favourite to win the men's and women's Six Nations and Rugby World Cup, The Champions Cup, Top 14, United Rugby Championship and National Provincial Championship.
